Monrovia, Liberia; August 15, 2025: — The Government of Liberia, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and partners, will convene a High-Level Meeting on August 19th to present Liberia’s draft Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) and the pioneering NDC x Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Insights Report.
The event will bring together senior political leaders, key government ministries, development partners, and civil society to strengthen alignment between Liberia’s climate commitments and its national development priorities.
The revised NDC 3.0 builds on lessons from Liberia’s 2015 and 2021 submissions under the Paris Agreement and reflects extensive national consultations, technical reviews, and stakeholder engagement.
It outlines enhanced climate action targets while ensuring coherence with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda (2025–2029), National Adaptation Plan (2020–2030), Liberia National Biodiversity Action Plan, and Mission 300 Energy Compact.
In parallel, Liberia has been piloting the NDC x SDG Integrated Insights initiative, which identifies policy accelerators that link climate action with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This evidence-based approach presents a robust development case for NDC 3.0, emphasizing integrated policy pathways and investment strategies that drive both environmental sustainability and socio-economic progress.
The insights revealed that Liberia’s NDC 3.0 can be a powerful vehicle for delivering the ARREST agenda for inclusive development, supporting environmental governance and energy programs.
The meeting on Tuesday will serve as a platform for stakeholders to provide strategic guidance, foster ownership of the revised NDC, and build momentum ahead of its submission to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and presentation at the UN Climate Action Event in New York on 24 September 2025.
Expected outcomes include strong endorsement of the draft NDC 3.0 and NDC x SDG Insights Report, improved alignment between climate and development agendas, and consensus on the next steps for technical validation and final submission.
UNDP Resident Representative in Liberia, Aliou Mamadou Dia, reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s climate and development ambitions:

Through strategic partnerships and inclusive policies, adequate financial support and robust implementation, we can turn this roadmap into real progress that drives resilient growth and leaves no one behind,” Dr. Yarkpawolo notes.
The High-Level Meeting marks a significant milestone in Liberia’s journey toward climate resilience and sustainable development, demonstrating the country’s readiness to play an active role in shaping global climate action.
