From Farewell to Forward Mission: Rev. Wreh Sent Forth in Tears and Triumph

An atmosphere of gratitude, reverence, and quiet sorrow filled Martha Tubman Memorial United Methodist Church as the congregation gathered to bid farewell to Rev. Wreh, who delivered his final sermon before transitioning to a broader leadership role within the church.

Rather than framing the moment solely as a goodbye, the service reflected a commissioning—an intentional sending forth of a pastor whose ministry has left an indelible mark on the congregation.

Preaching on the theme, “Sorry to Say Goodbye,” and drawing from Second Epistle to Timothy 4:7–8 — “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…” — Rev. Wreh offered a deeply personal reflection on his years of service. He spoke candidly about the challenges of ministry, the victories that strengthened his faith, and the sacred responsibility of shepherding souls.

The message resonated profoundly. Members of the congregation were visibly moved as he recounted seasons of growth, trials endured, and the collective spiritual journey shared with the church family. What unfolded was more than a farewell sermon; it was a testimony of perseverance, faithfulness, and gratitude.

A defining moment came at the close of the message when Rev. Wreh embraced the Senior Sheepherding Pastor, Rev. Dr. Matthew Armah Jaiah. The emotional exchange—marked by tears and mutual affirmation—symbolized unity in ministry and a shared commitment to advancing the Gospel. The sanctuary stood in silence, witnessing a powerful expression of pastoral brotherhood and spiritual solidarity.

Church Council members, lay servants, ministry leaders, and congregants later described the service as one of the most spiritually impactful moments in the church’s recent history. Many noted that while the departure was painful, the sense of divine purpose surrounding the transition brought reassurance.

In his response, Rev. Dr. Jaiah praised Rev. Wreh’s humility, dedication, and transformational leadership during his tenure at Tubman Memorial. He expressed firm confidence that the Sinoe District Conference will benefit greatly from his wisdom, compassion, and steadfast faith.

Rev. Wreh now assumes the role of District Superintendent of the Sinoe District Conference, where he will oversee and provide spiritual leadership to churches across the district. His elevation marks not an ending, but an expansion of his calling.

While the congregation grieves his departure, it does so with pride and hope. The farewell service affirmed a simple but profound truth: faithful service does not conclude with goodbye—it evolves into greater responsibility.

Indeed, as Scripture declares, he has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
