MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a stunning and direct challenge to persistent corruption allegations, former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah has unveiled what he describes as “irrefutable evidence” to clear his name regarding a purported $30 million COVID-19 scandal.
Speaking to reporters in Monrovia, Tweah vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged misappropriation of funds, asserting that the monies were exclusively managed by the World Food Program (WFP) and not by him or the Ministry of Finance.
Tweah’s decisive public appearance was a direct and forceful rebuttal to claims made by Stanton Witherspoon, who had publicly alleged that the former minister was facing imminent arrest in connection with the scandal.
He swiftly dismantled these claims, producing official documents that clearly designated the WFP as the sole recipient and administrator of the entire $30 million.
“The facts are clear: the WFP received $25 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and an additional $5 million from the World Bank, totaling $30 million,” Tweah stated with conviction.
He further elaborated on the expenditure, confirming, “The WFP spent $23.838 million, leaving a balance of $1.171 million to be returned to the government and $857,555 to be returned to the World Bank.” This detailed accounting directly contradicts the narrative of missing or mismanaged funds by his ministry.
He further revealed that the current Boakai-Kung’s administration has already authorized the utilization of these unspent funds for crucial school feeding programs, an action that further undermines Witherspoon’s initial allegations and indicates transparency regarding the remaining balance.
With his professional integrity and reputation under severe assault, Tweah announced his firm intention to file a comprehensive libel lawsuit against Stanton Witherspoon.
“I’ve had enough of these malicious attacks,” He declared emphatically. “I will not be silenced or intimidated. We will fight back with every means at our disposal, intellectually, politically, and legally.
